Internship Project

Siri Snippets

The Goal

Redesigning the visual responses in Siri and Search for Apple Maps, aiming for a modern look while integrating Apple Maps directly into the snippets. Additionally, our work was guided by templates that aligned with Platform’s vision.

My Role & Duration

Lead Designer from July 2023 to November 2023

Responsibilities

As the lead designer during my internship, I followed the guidance of my host, participated in engineering meetings, and refined my designs based on feedback from my team.

Modernized Design

Siri Snippets features a fresh, modern design with rounded edges, larger call to action buttons and a revamped text layout.

Integrates with Apple Maps

Integrates with Apple Maps

Integrates with Apple Maps

Siri Snippets seamlessly integrates with Apple Maps, making the snippet appear as though it's coming directly from Maps itself.

Maps Punch-out Flow

This flow demonstrates what happens when the user selects directions to 'Zuni Cafe.' It redirects them to Maps, displaying traffic information for the route. If the user closes the directions and starts over, they'll stay within the Maps app.

Maps Punch-Out Flow

When the user taps on the map display, they'll be taken directly to Maps, where the business and place card will appear. If the user wants to search for another business, their previous search queries will be saved for easy access.

Direct Call Punch-Out

If a user wants to call a business through the snippet, it will instantly take them to the phone app.

Maps Punch-out - Multiple Search Query

When searching for chain restaurants or locations, a list will appear in the snippet if multiple are nearby, organized based on your current location. When the user selects a specific one, they'll be directed to that location's business page, with the place card displayed.

Maps Punch-out - Multiple Search Query

Similarly, when the user selects directions for that business, they’ll be taken to the navigation screen, showing traffic information. If they close the navigation screen, they’ll remain in the Maps app.

Maps Punch-out - Parked Car

In this scenario, the user asks Siri where they parked their car. This snippet displays the location of the parked car, and when they click the directions button, it redirects them to Maps to provide directions to their vehicle.

Maps Spotlight Punch-out

When a user searches for a business in Spotlight, a snippet will appear similar to the one in Siri. Selecting the business will take them directly to Maps, where the business's place card will be displayed.

Takeaways

This was my first major project where I collaborated with other designers and engineers. The knowledge I gained was invaluable, from creating project decks to presenting and iterating until launch. If I could do it differently, I would have practiced my presentation skills more. I learned that while being a skilled designer is important, honing soft skills is just as crucial. I also realized the importance of clear communication with stakeholders and effective collaboration with engineers to achieve the final goal. Overall, it was a fantastic experience.
